The Gems of Learning
$92.00 – $1,016.00
Oil on canvas (original dimensions: 22″ x 28″)
This painting was commissioned by a Rabbi in Australia to serve as the cover of his book. He envisioned precious gems emerging from the pages of the Gemara, symbolizing the immeasurable value of Torah learning.
In the background, I included the hills of Jerusalem to anchor the scene in the eternal homeland of the Jewish people. The figures are seated beneath a fig tree—a deliberate reference to the era of King Solomon. In that time of peace and wisdom, often seen as a foreshadowing of the Messianic age, it is said that “each man sat under his vine and fig tree,” studying Torah in tranquility. King Solomon is considered by some to be a “quasi-Moshiach”, and this imagery reflects that golden age of unity, understanding, and spiritual richness.
