Oil on canvas (original dimensions: 24”x30”)

This is a painting that has been waiting for the last 4 years to be painted onto canvas. Yom Kippur is so often not thought of in the best light. But if you think about it, it’s really the happiest day of the year. We get a second chance. This painting is of a woman in Jerusalem hanging up the laundry of her large family. All those white shirts! Taking the dirt away and making everything clean just as God removes our sins.

The passage in this painting is:

“Wash yourselves clean put your evil doings away from my site. Cease to do evil. Learn to do good. Devote yourself to justice. Aid the wronged. Uphold the rights of the orphan. Defend the cause of the widow. “Come, let us reach an understanding, says the Lord. Be your sins like Crimson, they can turn snow white, be they red as dyed wool they can become like fleece.” (Isaiah)
