I have many hummingbirds in my backyard and they sound different than most birds. Their flight patterns are also different, at times flying straight up and then shooting back down quickly. I was walking down the street one day, hummingbirds were playing in front of a bottle brush tree. I decided to paint them and added water to the scene.
The biblical verse in this painting is:
גם ציפור מצאה בית דרור קן לה אשר שתה אפרחיה את מזבחותך ה׳ צבאות מלכי ואלקי
Even the bird finds it’s home and the free bird her nest where she had her young. O to be at your alters Hashem (G-d) master of allegiance my King and my G-d.
A loving mother bird will not return to its nest if it’s young are missing. It will fly tirelessly to find them and bring them home. Israel while in exile, without its temple and lacking the security of its mother’s loving wing, is like a missing chick. It longs for G-d’s altar and G-d longs for its repentance so that he can bring it home for good.
