Bringing Down the Light expresses how every mitzvah draws Divine light into our world, creating a home for Hashem in the physical realm. The purpose of creation is to reveal the concealed—and through mitzvot, we bring light down; through Torah study, we reveal it.
I chose to depict a young man immersed in Torah learning, enveloped by the glow of Hashem’s light. Scattered throughout the forest are sparks of light—each one a mitzvah performed, illuminating the darkness. Wearing the 3D glasses, the mitzvos really pop! – reminding us that spiritual acts are vividly alive when viewed through the right lens (a Torah lens).
The sages taught that Torah study is equal to all other mitzvos combined. It engages thought and speech, refining the soul’s inner garments and elevating the deepest layers of the nefesh habehames (the animal soul).
Like water flowing from a higher to a lower place, Torah retains its full Divine essence as it descends through all spiritual realms –undiminished, pure, and radiant.
The pasuk I chose for this painting is:
נר מצוה ותורה אור
The commandment is a lamp and the teaching is a light.

May we greet Moshiach today with all our glorious light!
